Union of Estonian Automobile Enterprises

General

The Union of Estonian Automobile Enterprises (NGO) is an employers' organisation to unite on voluntary basis the Estonian transport enterprises.

Due to the variety of the members' profile, special sections are formed within the association. At present there are 3 active sections functioning: cargo transport section, bus transport section and taxi transport section.

The Union of Estonian Automobile Enterprises was established on the 12th March 1990. Thus the year 2005 is to celebrate our 15th birthday. The founders of the association were 31 Estonian transport enterprises. During the years, the number of the member enterprises has been constantly between 40 – 50.

The leadership of the association is given to the general assembly, which functions in a form of general meeting, and to the board, which coordinates the work during the period between the general meetings. The daily activities are arranged by the administration.

Achievements so far

The Union of Estonian Automobile Enterprises is in co-operation with the Ministy of Economic Affairs and Communications; the Ministry of Finance; and the Ministry of Social Affairs. This means that the latter ministries take into account our propositions when elaborating transport-related legal acts by giving us a chance to participate in relevant work-groups.

The Association also participates in passenger- and automobile cargotransport committees by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications.

Starting with the year 2001, by the authorisation of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communication, the association issues licenses for intra-national cargo transport service providers.

As the opinion of our association is relevant to the public sector, Union of Estonian Automobile Enterprises, as a social partner, plays an important role in the development of the entire transport sector in Estonia.

For over ten years the Union of Estonian Automobile Enterprises, as an employers organisation, has been the only association to sign a collective contract with the Estonian Transport and Road Workers Union. This contract is to fix the basics of the system of agreements and does not rule out the agreements to establish even more favourable conditions on the level of every single enterprise. In the context of EU, the cooperation with trade unions has constantly gained of importance.

In order to contribute to the most efficient supervision and control in the transport sector, the association is in cooperation with the police. The Union of Estonian Automobile Enterprises has offered special trainings to the law inforcement authorities and participates as an expert in police operations.

In cooperation with our partners the professional drivers' contest “Driver of the Year” is organised. The objective of this contest is to acknowledge the profession of truck- and busdrivers, improve the professional skills and thus the overall traffic safety.
